How to give us access to your GoDaddy account without sharing your password

Oct 27, 2026 · @Shawn

If your domain, email, or hosting lives at GoDaddy, we'll probably need to get in there at some point. Pointing your domain to a new website, setting up email, fixing a setting so your contact form works again. All normal stuff.

The old way was to send over your username and password. Please don't do that. Your GoDaddy login controls your payment info, your domain, and everything tied to it. If it ends up in the wrong hands, it's a real headache to fix.

GoDaddy has a better option called delegate access. You invite us, we sign in with our own account, and you decide how much we can do. You can change it or take it back anytime. This guide walks you through it, and it only takes a few minutes.

What delegate access means

Think of it like giving a contractor a key to one door instead of handing over your whole keyring. We can open and work on the products in your account, but we never see your password.

No matter which access level you choose, a delegate can't:

  • See or change your password or Support PIN
  • See, add, or change payment methods
  • See your order history
  • Invite anyone else into your account
  • Accept a domain transfer into your account

You stay the owner of everything. That doesn't change.

What you'll need

  • Your GoDaddy login. GoDaddy may ask you to sign in a second time to confirm it's you.
  • The email address to invite: [ADD METRIQ INVITE EMAIL]
  • About five minutes

How to invite us

  1. Sign in to GoDaddy and go to your Delegate Access page. You can also get there by clicking your name in the top right corner, choosing Account Settings, then Delegate Access.
  2. Find the section called "People who can access my account" and click Invite to Access.
  3. Enter our name (Metriq) and the email address above.
  4. Choose an access level. If you're not sure which one, the next section explains each one. For most projects we'll ask for Products & Domains.
  5. Click Invite.

That's it on your end. GoDaddy sends us an email invite, and you'll get a notice once we accept.

One thing to know: invites expire if they aren't accepted within 48 to 72 hours. Send us a quick note when you've sent it so we can accept it right away. If it does expire, just send a new one the same way.

Which access level to choose

GoDaddy gives you four options. Here's what each one means in plain terms.

Products & Domains (what we usually ask for)

Lets us work on your domains, hosting, email, and other products in your account. We can't buy anything or see your payment info. This covers most website and email projects.

Domains Only

Lets us manage your domain settings and nothing else. This is a good fit if all we need to do is connect your domain to your website or email.

Products, Domains, & Purchase

Everything in Products & Domains, plus we can buy new products or renewals using the card already on your account. We still can't see the card itself. Only choose this if you want us to handle purchases or renewals for you. We'll tell you if a project needs it.

Accounts Connection Only

Keeps us connected to your account, but we can't open or change anything. This is a nice middle ground between projects. When you need us again, you just bump the level back up instead of starting over.

Want to limit us to just one domain?

If you have several domains and only want us working on one of them, GoDaddy lets you do that with domain folders. After we accept your invite, you put that domain in a folder and give us access to just that folder.

It's a few extra clicks. If you'd like to set it up this way, tell us and we'll walk you through it. GoDaddy also has a help article on folder permissions if you want to do it yourself.

How to change or remove our access later

Go back to your Delegate Access page, find us under "People who can access my account," and change the level or remove us. You don't need to ask us first.

When a project wraps up, it's good practice to drop us down to Accounts Connection Only or remove us completely. We won't take it personally.

A few habits that keep your account safe

  • Turn on 2-step verification for your GoDaddy login. It's one of the easiest ways to keep someone else out.
  • Never send your password or Support PIN by email or text, to us or anyone else. If someone claiming to be us asks for your password, it isn't us.
  • Check your Delegate Access page every so often and remove anyone who no longer needs to be there, like an old web person or a past employee.
  • Make sure the account is in the business owner's name and tied to an email you still use. If you're not sure who owns your GoDaddy account, reach out and we can help you sort it out.

Common questions

Does this cost anything?

No. Delegate access is free and built into every GoDaddy account.

Do I need to create anything for you?

No. We already have our own GoDaddy account. If you're inviting someone else, like another vendor, they'll need a GoDaddy account too. GoDaddy will prompt them to create one if they don't have it.

Can you see my credit card?

No. No delegate can see or change your payment methods, at any access level.

What if I can't find the Delegate Access page?

Use the direct link above. If you're still stuck, reach out and we'll walk you through it.

Can I change my mind after I send the invite?

Yes. You can cancel a pending invite, change the access level, or remove us at any time from the same page.

If you get stuck anywhere in this process, email us and we'll help you get it done.
